Little bits

Little bits

Around 9:00 pm I always enjoy a cup or two of chamomile tea and a snack. I have been doing so for as long as I can remember, it has become an addiction. During the day I workout and count my calories and feel very good and satisfied. Then night falls and the urge to snack strikes! I can't say exactly why this is but I know many of us feel the urge to nibble on food late at night and typically we are not craving an apple! My solution to prevent myself from overindulging in the evening is to only have healthy snacks in the house.
My favorite is a combination of raw nuts, dried fruit and chocolate chips. Raw nuts have a distinctly different flavor then roasted nuts do, they are a bit softer and more "fleshy". When buying dried fruit try and seek out no sugar added or fruit juice sweetened and those dried with no added sulfur. Yes, I know that chocolate chips are not "healthy" but that little bit of chocolate makes me happy!
My ratio is 1 part nuts, 1 part fruit and 1/2 part chocolate chips which will calculate out to about 160 calories per 1/4 cup of the mix.

1/3 cup raw cashews
1/3 cup raw pistachios
1/3 cup raw walnuts
1 cup banana chips
1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips

1 cup raw almonds
1/2 cup raw pistachios
1/2 cup raw peanuts
1/2 cup cranberries
1/2 cup sour cherries
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup white chocolate chips
How good does this look? You want a handful, I know you do!
